Code compliance in the Town of Jupiter is a division of the Police Department. If a violation is not fixed, the town can fine up to $1,000 a day, or $5,000 a day for a repeat violator, and the fine is recorded as a lien in the county’s public records that can stay in effect for 20 years. On property that is not homesteaded, the town says it can start foreclosure. The town’s Special Magistrate, an attorney appointed by the Council, hears requests to reduce or abate fines and authorizes lien releases.
For a sale, the town takes code violation and lien search requests through its JupConnect portal, currently at no charge, with an answer in five to seven business days. That search does not cover everything: open permits come from the Building Department, water liens from the town’s Utilities department, and sewer liens from the Loxahatchee River Environmental Control District. This is general information, not legal advice; a Florida attorney can tell you how a fine reduction might apply to your case.
